Hardwood & Laminate Flooring Installation in Port Dover & Norfolk County

We install solid and engineered hardwood flooring and laminate flooring in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways and on stairs, and finish the floor with new baseboards and quarter round. You buy the flooring you like, and we install it. If it is at a local store, we can pick it up for you when that is convenient. Styles of Tiles is based in Port Dover.

What a Hardwood Floor Job Includes

Here is what our hardwood flooring installation covers, in plain terms, laminate included. One job can include any mix of it.

You Buy It, We Install ItChoose your hardwood or laminate at a flooring store, a big-box store or anywhere else, and we install it. We don't sell hardwood or laminate ourselves. If it is at a local store, we can pick it up for you when that is convenient.
Solid & Engineered HardwoodSolid hardwood is one piece of wood, usually nailed down over a wood subfloor. Engineered hardwood has a real hardwood top layer over a stable core, so it can be nailed, glued down or floated. We'll tell you which one suits your room.
Nail-Down, Glue-Down & FloatingWe install hardwood all three ways: nailed down, glued down, or as a floating floor that clicks together. Which way is right depends on the product you bought and on what is under it.
Laminate Flooring TooWe install laminate flooring as well. It is a click-together floating floor with a wood look, and a budget-friendly option next to hardwood. It gets the same prep, baseboards and quarter round.
Stairs: Treads, Risers & NosingHardwood on stairs: we install the treads you step on, the risers between them and the stair nosing. We don't do the stringers, the boards at the sides of the stairs, and we don't do railings.
Floor Prep, Baseboards & TrimA hardwood floor needs a flat, dry, solid subfloor under it. When the old floor has to come up, we take it up and haul it away, and when the subfloor needs levelling, we level it. New baseboards and quarter round finish the floor off. All of it is included in the job.

Where Our Part of a Floor Starts and Stops

This is where our part of a hardwood or laminate floor starts and stops, so you know what to expect and who to call for what.

What we do

We check that the subfloor is flat, dry and solid. The hardwood sits in your home for 48 to 72 hours before we install it, so the wood can adjust to the house. We plan the layout so the rows run straight and the end joints are staggered, then install the floor the way the product calls for: nailed down, glued down or floating. We leave the expansion gap the wood needs at the walls and cover it with baseboards and quarter round, with transition strips where the new floor meets another one. If furniture is in the way, we move it.

What someone else does

We don't do plumbing. If the floor under the hardwood needs structural repair, like sagging joists, that is a contractor's job, and it has to be done before we start. On stairs, we don't do the stringers or the railings.

Common Questions

Do you supply the flooring?

No. You buy the hardwood or laminate you like, and it doesn't matter where: Home Depot, RONA, Costco, a flooring store or online. We install it. If it is at a local store, we can pick it up for you when that is convenient. Tell us the product name on the box and how many square feet you have, and send photos of the rooms.

Solid hardwood, engineered hardwood or laminate: which one?

Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished many times and suits main floors and upstairs rooms. Engineered hardwood is real wood on top with a stable core, so it handles humidity swings better and comes in wider planks. Laminate flooring is not wood on the surface, but it is the budget-friendly option. Tell us the room and the budget and we'll say which we would put in.

How long does a hardwood flooring installation take?

The hardwood sits in your home for 48 to 72 hours before we install it, so the wood can adjust to the house. The installation itself typically runs 2 to 4 days, depending on the size of the floor, the stairs and how much prep the subfloor needs. Ask when you call for your quote and we'll tell you what to expect for your job.

Can hardwood go in a basement or over concrete?

Hardwood over concrete or in a basement can be done in special cases, after an assessment. We look at the site first and tell you honestly whether hardwood will work there. We recommend tile for a full bathroom floor, and vinyl plank is often the better choice for a basement that sees moisture.

Do you install hardwood on stairs?

Yes. On stairs we install the hardwood treads, the risers and the stair nosing. We don't do the stringers, the boards that run up the sides of the stairs, and we don't do railings. Send a photo of the stairs with your quote request.

What should I send you for a quote?

Photos of the rooms and rough measurements are the best start. Tell us whether you want hardwood, engineered hardwood or laminate, whether you have bought it yet, what is on the floor now, whether there are stairs, and whether you want new baseboards and quarter round. That is usually enough for us to tell you what the job involves.
